It’s now the time to replace your old mattress and upgrade to the cooler (temperature wise of course), lighter and enable you to soundly sleep through the night mattress. Maybe you’re even upgrading to one of those machine contraption mattresses where you don’t need to use any of your abdominal muscles to bring yourself to an upright position or one of those sweet new high-tech mattresses where you can set a temperature for each mattress side. Now that’s cool! Regardless of how you’re replacing it, you’ll need to find a way to dispose of your old mattress soon. Living in Fairfield County, Connecticut, I’d have to imagine that your or your child’s bedroom is not like the open plains. Rather, their mattress may take up the entire living space! AH!
Well we’re here to help you out. Proper disposal of your mattress is crucial to our environment as just throwing it away will result in the discontinuation of reusable materials (i.e. the metal springs inside the mattress, the wooden frame of the box spring).
Unfortunately, donating your mattress will prove to be unsuccessful as donation centers do NOT accept them any longer. The main reason is because they’re unsure what condition it’s in and what diseases and bacteria may be crawling around on it. The bed bugs epidemic has put a real damper on mattress donation but never the less, you can always donate it to a friend or family member (or maybe even someone on Craigslist). If you can’t find someone to take the mattress off of your hands, you’ll have to dispose of it soon. If you have a large enough car like an SUV with a foldable back row, a pickup truck, or some twine and elbow grease to tie it to your roof, you can bring it over to your nearest transfer station for disposal. Depending on your town, you may be able to do this free of charge.
Another way to remove your mattress is to call on your local junk removal company and schedule a time slot during the day for them to come out and relieve you of this pain in the neck! This is by far the easiest way to remove your bulky and tough to deal with items like mattress and box springs because the junk company will come into your home and remove it from wherever it is inside. Just point it out and they’ll lug it out and into their dump truck. For a job like this with one or two rather large items, you’re likely looking at around $100 for a professional junk removal company to come out and service your needs.
